The addictions and mental health care system in Ontario is filled with unfamiliar acronyms — abbreviations based on the initial letters of other words — that can be puzzling at first for the uninitiated. Below is a list of the more common acronyms used in Ontario. In addition to spelling out what the acronym stands for, the list provides a brief explanation wherever possible and a link to the organization’s web site.



An excellent place to start searching for information on a myriad of topics concerning mental health.   

A comprehensive calendar of support groups created by the Royal Ottawa that can be helpful for families seeking support and confused about what is available to them.

The Change Foundation’s web site offers some excellent  information on discharge planning and the supports and education families need for a smooth transition from the hospital to the community.
